The Twelve Slays of Christmas

Happy December, everyone!


After taking a nice month-long break from reviews, I'm eager to knock out a few more before the year is up. I had a couple people recommend that I try reviewing other types of movies (comedies, action movies); in particular, a friend suggested I review 31 Christmas movies in December. I don't plan on doing that, for a few different reasons (not the least of which being how difficult it is to do 31 movies in a month), but I decided to put a twist on it: I'm going to be reviewing twelve Christmas-themed horror movies, for the Twelve Slays of Christmas!

(When I first decided to do this I thought, "Are there even twelve Christmas-themed horror movies?" And the answer is of course, yes. There's way more than that. I found a list of 47 and several of them I wanted to watch weren't even on there.)

I might make changes to the order, but below is the list of movies I plan to review, starting on Saturday, December 14th and going until Christmas day. Most of them are available on Amazon Prime or Tubi; I will provide links to free viewing whenever possible.

Review #199: What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)

(1962) What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? follows two aged Hollywood starlet sisters, Jane and Blanche, who have begrudgingly lived together for many years after a car accident left Blanche confined to a wheelchair. Both sisters hate one another, and their deep-seated hatred has begun to hit a breaking point as Jane struggles to hold a tight grip on a world that no longer remembers her. My thoughts on this movie itself are pretty simple: This is a long film (2 hours 15) that really didn't need to be that long, and it's a pretty slow burn. The tension is there, you really feel the fear and paranoia you're meant to feel, so it's not a bad time, I just really think it could have been tightened up (either in the script phase or the editing phase) to cut off like a solid half an hour. Gabe's 100 Bucket List Horror Films Review #8 - The Endless (2018) A disclaimer: Most of this review is going to be me complaining about the logistics and mechanics of this movie, and it's going to be full of spoilers. I'll try to summarize my non-mechanical thoughts as concisely as possible. The Endless is an interesting film created by writing/directing duo Benson and Moorhead. Apart from Spring (which to my knowledge doesn't fit into this film's universe, though I could be mistaken) this was the first Benson & Moorhead joint I'd seen, and I was instantly intrigued by the premise: two brothers escaped a cult ten years ago, and after hearing that the cult was seemingly getting ready to kill themselves, they go back for one last visit to get some closure.
