Review #42: Jason X (2001)

Horror Movie October day 14: Jason X

Since I watched a Friday the 13th movie for Friday the 13th, I considered watching Saturday the 14th for Saturday the 14th- however, I couldn't find a good place to download it and I remember it not being very good. So I watched Jason X instead.

Remember how Jason went to hell at the very end of Jason Goes to Hell? Well, I guess that didn't actually happen because now he's locked up in a government facility where they're conducting tests on him or something. He ends up getting free but then is trapped in cryostasis, and bingo bango bongo he's accidentally revived in the future on a spaceship and the galaxy still isn't ready for ol' Jason Voorhees!

This movie clearly didn't take itself very seriously, and that's a good thing. It was a fairly fun watch, the characters aren't overtly unlikeable, and plenty of the kills are clever and interesting. (Like the woman who gets her head dunked in liquid nitrogen, and then shattered. I liked that one.) It had a similar feel to Leprechaun 4 (which isn't exactly a compliment) and the movie alluded to a lot of world building that sounded interesting but never came into play (particularly when the captain of the ship is trying to get additional funding for his research) so I'll dock it some points for that, but the idea to trick Jason with holodeck teens was ingenious and it's a shame it didn't last very long.

All in all I had a lot of fun watching this movie. Was it good? Eh, not really. But it was fun. And I guess that's what matters.

Final Rating: 7/10 Medical Machetes

Friday the 13th Movies I Still Need to Watch: None of them! This was the last one I hadn't seen. Where's my trophy?
