2026: The Franchise Strikes Back

Hello again, everyone! Hopefully you've had an uneventful year so far. It's almost that time, and you know what that means- 31 more horror reviews!

A few years back (2020, it feels like a million years ago) I chose four movie franchises- Halloween, Hellraiser, Jeepers Creepers, and A Nightmare on Elm Street- and reviewed (practically) all of the movies in those franchises. This year I'm doing something similar- I've chosen three franchises I'm going to watch in full (except for a couple entries I've already reviewed), and then I'm going to round the month out by watching a few entries from the previous set of franchises that I didn't get to last time (mostly because they hadn't released yet). It should be noted that I'm not going to be reviewing Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday or Jason X, because those are (for some reason) the only two Friday the 13th movies I've already reviewed. (I've seen them all a bunch of times so it's weird that I've never reviewed the rest, but whatever.) I never covered the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake or Freddy vs. Jason, so I'll be including those in here (though I feel like most people consider Freddy vs. Jason to be more of a Friday movie than a Nightmare movie so I think I can be forgiven). And since neither of the last two Halloween movies were out when I reviewed the rest of the series I'm capping off this month with those.

I'm excited to see how all of these movies do when put under my trademark scrutiny, so let's have some fun!

And after this, keep your eyes open when December comes around, because I think I've got another 12 Slays of Christmas in me yet!

Review #155: Spontaneous (2020)

Gabe's 100 Bucket List Horror Films Review #10 - Spontaneous (2020) So, the first thing I want to address about this film is that I both agree and disagree with it being on a list of horror movies. On the one hand, there is definitely an extremely horrific and terrifying element to the premise and plot of this film- there's no denying that. But on the other hand, this is absolutely a romance movie, not a horror movie. Even calling it romance/horror feels a bit much. But whatever the case (spoilers for my final thoughts) this is a great movie and I definitely never would have watched it if it hadn't been on this list! Spontaneous is a story about a group of teenagers in a small town who start spontaneously combusting. Without warning, without apparent cause, one by one they start randomly exploding. October 2025 Holiday Horror Review #21 - The Recall (2017) Watch it here on Amazon Prime Video! The Recall follows a group of friends on a trip out to a rented lake house for Labor Day weekend, when the world is approached by aliens intent on abducting and experimenting on as many humans as they can get their hands on. With the help of a hermit that turns out to be an ex-astronaut that dealt with the aliens before, these friends have to fight for survival- while also fighting against their personal demons. The Recall is... interesting, it really went some directions I didn't expect it to. It starts off like your typical horror film with some twenty-somethings going out to the woods, they run into a creepy hermit who you think is a bad guy but turns out to be a good guy, and then weird stuff starts happening.
